CitySSMAn update on the search for a new Chief Administrative Officer for Sault Ste. Marie is on Monday’s Council agenda.  Included is a ‘Charter Of Expectations’ — it’s made up of eight different principles that are expected of the successful candidate.  They range from timely updates and due diligence to constructive interventions. New information on the profile of the ideal candidate and how many people have applied for the CAO position is also highlighted.  As many as 40 applications were received as of the end of June.   Information relating to applicants is expected to be revealed at the next meeting of the CAO Selection Committee this Wednesday.  A first round of interviews is scheduled for late July with a second round of interviews tentatively scheduled for early August.

The Chief of the Batchawana First Nation is asking City Council to delay a planning application.  The property is the former St. Hubert School — a school that according to a letter from Batchawana Chief Dean Sayers was built with First Nation money. It was also mentioned that the First Nation was not aware that the school and lands were being considered for sale  The Chief is hoping to talk with City and Catholic School Board officials to resolve the issue.  The application is to allow 22 self-contained dwelling units within the currently vacant building.  That would happen should the property at 207 Dacey Road be rezoned to a Single Detached Residential Zone with a Special Exception.

Civic Holiday could become Sir William H. Hearst Day in the Sault, pending Council approval.  A request will be made on Monday to rename the August holiday as a recognition of the legacy of Hearst.  Hearst’s name may also be linked with academic scholarships at Algoma University and Sault College in the future.  Council will receive a report at a meeting at a later date from the Committee to Honour William H. Hearst.
