Sault MP Bryan Hayes announced a major investment on Thursday for two Parks Canada sites in Northern Ontario. The investment totals 16 million dollars and will go towards improvements at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site and Pukaskwa National Park. Most of that money will be spent to enhance infrastructure such as buildings and roads. Parks Canada Northern Ontario Field Unit Superintendent Robin Lessard says the funding is about more than aesthetics…

The Canal National Historic Site and Pukaskwa National Park are two of four Parks Canada operated sites in Northern Ontario. The others are the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area and the Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site.
Lessard says the funding is timely and needed for those two sites…

The money will be used for the following projects:

Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site:

— $1.2 million for the conservation of the Superintendent’s Residence

— $2.2 million for structural stabilization for the Stores Building

— $3 million for the design, repaving and reconstruction of the Entry Road

— $5.9 million for water infiltration mitigration and structural stabilization for the Powerhouse and Associated Structures

Pukaskwa National Park:

— $1 million for improvements to the Administration Building

— $2.7 million for the design, repaving and reconstruction of the Entry Road

— $480,000 to ‘connect Canadians’ through print, web and media to learn about the park’s role in Fire Management
