At the urging of Essar Steel Algoma, the Canada Border Services Agency is investigating a complaint of dumping of steel plate by three steel companies from India and a fourth from Russia dating back to 2012.    The complaint was filed in April – a preliminary report is due in September – with any decision on punitive action not expected before December. Essar’s claiming that 110,000 tonnes of plate made it’s way onto the Canadian market last year alone from India … and market share of the subsidized steel grew from 1.9 to 13.3 per cent last year … and the share of locally made products shrunk marginally to 36% despite Canada imposing anti-dumping duties on steel plates from six other countries.
