SaultMISault, Michigan will be having an outdoor concert next month. City Commissioners approved the use of the Aune Osborn Field (Campground) on Monday for the inaugural SuperiorFest concert on Saturday, August 8th. Sault Mayor Tony Bosbous questioned why the event couldn’t take place at Moloney’s Alley instead — what he described as the ‘focal point’ of the downtown. Superior Fest will run from 12 noon until around 11:00 p.m., with ten to twelve bands from Michigan expected to be there and at least one group from Sault, Ontario. This will be the first outdoor concert in five years for the area. It’s also a response to people who have been asking to bring back the outdoor concert. Cook says the event will benefit the city’s Downtown Development Authority and the Twin Saults as a whole…

When asked about how many people he would like to see attend, Cook responded that he would be happy with two thousand to three thousand spectators taking in the one day concert. Cook says the one day concert is being done with the support of numerous groups including the Downtown Development Authority and Kewadin Casinos…

The DDA will benefit financially through sales from a liquor licence that was also approved by City Commissioners. Cook is hopeful that this inaugural event will be able to grow in future years.
