(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) The City’s Planning Division is hosting an Open House to inform the general public and members of the Downtown Association of proposed streetscape improvements to the section of Queen Street between Dennis and Bruce Street.
Date: Wednesday, June 17 – 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Location: Plummer Room, Level 3, Civic Centre – 99 Foster Drive
The proposal is to replace a number of trees that need to be removed due to Emerald Ash Borer. The strategy will utilize a tree root trenching system where a series of trees will share a common planting bed so that the roots can expand. In addition, a variety of trees will be planted, minimizing the risks of future invasive species.
The tree-planting project will be augmented by the installation of street furniture, including benches and garbage receptacles. All existing paving stones will remain.
The intention is to tender this project this summer, with a possible construction start in August. An information report will be presented to City Council at the June 22 meeting.
