SaultMICity Commissioners will be asking for support on a unique project at LSSU.  Jodi Orm will discuss the proposed two floor, 20 thousand square foot Simulator Center during a Powerpoint presentation on Monday night.  In addition to 8 thousand square feet of administrative space, the facility would also be home to a ‘virtual hospital’ and space for EMS Training and Certification.  Some of the project’s benefits are service as a recruiting tool for doctors and nurses and students receiving state-of-the-art education.  The resolution will allow the city commission to ask for support from Senator Wayne Schmidt, Representative Lee Chatfield and the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners regarding the Simulator Centre Project.

The City Commission will also be asked for its support of parks and recreation on Monday.  The Community Services Board is asking for this support as part of the Master Recreational Plan Development.  The board recently heard a presentation with regards to the updated plan and work done by two Northern Michigan University students — Alex Strobehn and Yvonne Ridge.  It’s anticipated that the pair will be working on the update of the city’s Master Parks and Recreation Plan between now and early to mid-August.  The update is described as critical in the city’s ability to receive grant funds in the future — one example of this being money for potential improvements to support Lake State’s Centre for Freshwater Research and Education development.

City Commissioners will recognize Sault, Michigan Police Sergeant Micki Leppien on his winning the 2015 Police Officers Association of Michigan ‘Officer Of The Year’ Award at Monday’s meeting.
