AlgomaUniversityHave you ever wanted to participate in the Amazing Race? Algoma University’s staff and students will bring a sense of adventure and competition to campus as Grade 11 students from across the Algoma region compete in their own rendition of the popular television series. On April 29th and April 30th, the University will host their annual Grade 11 Days, which feature two hours of action-packed racing.

Approximately 300 students from high schools in Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding Algoma region, including Michipicoten High School, W. C. Eaket Secondary School, Manitouwadge High School, and Elliot Lake Secondary School will attend Grade 11 Days for an opportunity to get a dynamic tour of the University, including the Essar Convergence Centre, and the newly renovated George Leach Centre (GLC). Members from several departments in the University will be involved in the days’ activities.

Students from out-of-town high schools will also get the unique experience of living in residence. Those coming from Wawa, Blind River, Elliot Lake, and Manitouwadge, Ontario will stay overnight in the University’s newest single-room residence.

“Grade 11 Days are all about learning the great potential for success at Algoma University and having fun. Our theme this year is ‘Race to Success’ and we’ve tailored all of the activities around such. Hopefully their experience on campus will encourage them to consider Algoma University when choosing a university next year,” said Admissions Advisor Paul Quesnele.

After being welcomed onto campus, groups of eight to 10 students will begin racing to complete various challenges and tasks at each location, with the assistance of Admissions Advisors, staff, and student volunteers. The top three teams who finish the race first successfully on each day will be given prizes.

Students who compete will also be entered into a random draw for a $1,000 Algoma University tuition reward, awarded at the end of each day’s competition.
